One.Six Development and End of Waste install Thailand’s [EN]newwaste
One.Six Development has teamed up with End of Waste Co.,Ltd. to install a food digester at The Strand, an ultra-luxury mixed-use project on Soi Thonglor, to break down the neighbourhood’s leftovers overnight, introducing a new solution to Bangkok’s environmental and health challenges from food waste.
In tune with One.Six Development’s eco-friendly and socially responsible ethos, The Strand will host a food waste digester with a daily capacity of 300 kg, serving not only the mixed-use project’s own cafés and restaurants but also nearby eateries, boosting the local community’s quality of life.
Ms. Tanyatip Chearavanont, CEO of One.Six Development, said: “One.Six Development is delighted to launch this food waste scheme with End of Waste Co.,Ltd. on 11 November 2021 at The Strand to support tenants, residents, and the neighbourhood. We will turn leftovers into liquid for waste treatment for 12 months, debuting a safe, efficient, eco-friendly new disposal method. This initiative will reduce food waste and carbon emissions from waste haulage as well as vermin and the risk of infection from unhygienic environments.”
The fully automated digester uses microbes to convert food waste such as rice, noodles, vegetables, and even meat with bones into liquid in only 24 hours.
Mr. Porpong Shinawatra, Co-Founder of End of Waste Co.,Ltd., said: “We are proud to be working with One.Six Development to pioneer a new approach in food waste management. Bangkok Metropolitan Administration currently recycles only 2% of the capital’s food waste. But as much as 64% of Waste is food, which often goes straight to landfills, where it can spread diseases.”
The digester’s end product will go into building’s wastewater treatment system and eventually flow into the water catchment area.
This method of food waste management closes the loop in recycling as the waste returns to nature.
Local residents and restaurants will be encouraged to participate in this meaningful program by registering for their food waste to be treated at The Strand free of charge.
The Strand is a 30-storey mixed-use project in the heart of Bangkok’s hippest district, designed with understated luxury and world-class standards to curate a sophisticated lifestyle for discerning residents.
At a prestigious location a minute’s walk from Thonglor skytrain station at the front of Soi Thonglor, The Strand has an estimated investment of THB4.8 billion. Residences start at THB17.9 million.
